In-House Laboratory

In-House Laboratory

Ford Road Animal Clinic has the capability to perform various blood tests, pre-anesthetic bloodwork, and other types of testing on site instead of sending samples to an outside lab. This saves time, money, and most importantly, you don’t have to wait overnight for results—meaning your pet gets a diagnosis and needed treatment sooner.

Testing provided in the hospital includes:

Chemistry Panels:

  • Liver enzyme screening
  • Pancreatic evaluation
  • Renal (Kidney) profiles

Wellness screenings:

  • Complete blood counts
  • General chemistries
  • Blood gases
  • Urinalysis
  • Fecal testing (parasites)
  • Blood pressure

 Viral screenings:

  • FelV, FIV in cats
  • Parvovirus in dogs

While we do offer an extensive range of on-site testing, it is possible that your pet may need laboratory work beyond our scope. For those cases, we are happy to send blood work or other testing to an outside lab that will send results back to us.

Annual Heartworm Testing

In addition to annual Physical Exams and vaccination, annual Heartworm Testing is recommended to maintain the health of your pet. Heartworm is a parasite that is transmitted from the bite of infected mosquitoes.  If left untreated the Heartworm will migrate to your pet’s heart and cause serious health problems for your pet. A simple blood test done in our In-House Lab will provide you with results before you are done with your visit. Once it is determined that your pet is Negative for Heartworm, it is recommended that an easy to use monthly Heartworm prevention be given to keep your pet healthy and Heartworm free.

Annual Fecal Testing

Annual Fecal Testing is also part of your pets yearly Physical. You will be asked to bring in a small stool sample, about the size of a gumball, for testing. We are testing for intestinal parasites. We check a yearly sample to make sure your pet hasn’t picked up any parasites over the course of the year. Intestinal parasites can cause weight loss, diarrhea, and lethargy in your pet. These parasites can be passed to humans, so it is very important that testing be yearly and your pet is treated if parasites are found.
